Letter to Mrs Yeo
7:52 PM

Dear Mrs Yeo

How have u been? Are u feeling better now? Are you still ill? The class has really miss your teaching, for all the joy and laughter that was being brought by you into our class. Are you coming back to teach us? I really hope you would be able to come back and teach us again.

Time really flies. The first month of 2008 has passed. Many things have happened, our subject teachers have changed, in fact, we have 3 HOD teachers teaching us this year. Mr Yamin for Geography, Mrs Tan for chemistry and Mr Lee for Chinese. Our teacher have become more strict this year as we will be taking our O’levels this year. It is an important year for us and most of the teachers are running a fast pace in teaching due to the short time we have left to October for our papers. By the way, we are Sec fours now and we are considered seniors in Kent Ridge. We have to be more mature and responsible now and be good role models for the Sec ones. We must also learn to adapt to the pace of teaching in order to catch up with our work.
Miss Heng is our English, Social Studies and History teacher. She often gives us lecture that is actually quite boring. Mrs Tan is also strict in her lesson but she also brings in joy and laughter to the class. After the first week of school, we had to stay back almost everyday for remedial lessons, due to the short period of time stated in the time table.

During the mid January, the sec fours and fives had a trip to Ngee Ann Polytechnic for the open house. There were many courses available at Ngee Ann. Examples of popular courses were business studies. On 10th of January, the group of Shanghai students from the twinning programme came to Kent Ridge. They attended two weeks of lessons with us. They were friendly and cheerful towards us and we also played sports like basketball with them to let them feel more welcome. The Shanghai students also helped me in my Chinese. On 29th of January, we celebrated Chinese new year during assembly, we had a concert and the Shanghai pupils even participated in the performance too. I was very impressed with the violin performance by a Shanghai student.

On the 1st of February, we had our CIP day. Basically, we went to an elderly’s home to clean and decorate their house before Chinese New Year. Most of them live alone in a one room flat. We were divided into groups and dedicated to a unit. My group was in charge of a 75-year old woman. She spoke only Cantonese. My group members were having difficulty in conversing. Mrs Tee, who was in charged of my group had to help in translating for us. The elderly woman was not married, she had sister who had passed away. She was just renting a flat and she lived by herself. She would spent most of her time at home. I have learnt that there are many less fortunate people out there and we must lend a helping hand whenever we can to help them.

Lastly, I would like to say that I had enjoy myself in January for the many activities that were being organized by the school, but also, I had to work hard for the O’levels. I really hope the you would be able to return and teach us again.

Yours sincerely,
Wei siong

First day of school in sec 1(2005)
7:34 PM

It is the first day of school in 2005, a new year and a new term had started. I was excited and nervous at the same time. I had been promoted to secondary 1 but I still felt that I was in primary school. When I reached school, I felt that I should not have the childish behavior like in primary school. I had to be more mature.

After assembly, the councilors brought us all around the school. It was like a tour, and they were the tour guides. Secondary school was surely different from primary school. The surroundings are quite huge compared to primary school. We also played ice-breakers games to get to know each other. I also get to know some of my classmates better. After the ice-breakers, the councilor brought us back to our classroom. Our teacher shows us the time-table and we copied it. I found that we actually have seven subjects including English, Mother Tongue, Mathematics and Science.

We went for recess after that. There are varieties of food available in the canteen. The food is also much more costly than in primary school. The duration for recess was too short. Due to the long queue, we had already spent most of our time queuing up and lesser time to consume our food. We went back to the hall for more games after recess. Everyone is exhausted after the games. We went back to class for few hours of lesson and we were then dismissed at 1.45p.m. I was tired after a long day of games in the first day of school
